Advocating for families seeking to remain together in safe and healthy homes.

VOLUNTEER

Become A Family Advocate

As a Family Advocate (FA), you'll support families in crisis, helping them become stronger and more resilient. Let's build positive relationships through regular meetings, help them create plans with attainable goals, and connect them with valuable community resources.

Your journey as an FA begins with our initial training and a background check. We also encourage attending further education courses and staying informed about trauma-related topics. Monthly check-ins and quarterly meetings with the Director of Volunteers ensure you receive the support you need.

SOME FRIENDLY, HELPFUL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

Providing transportation to appointments

Sharing lunch to discuss appointments/resources

Visiting the library for children's activities

Taking leisurely walks for connection

Introducing families to friends/community members

Assisting with cost-effective grocery shopping

Riding the bus together and learning routes to important locations

PARTNER

Build healthier and more resilient communities by partnering with The Village Durham. Reach out to us to explore collaboration opportunities, co-creating synergies and transforming Durham into a vibrant hub for community development.

Become a Community Partner

We are looking to partner with organizations that offer help in job training, employment, housing, nutrition, mental health, parenting education, and more. The Village seeks to bridge the gap between the family and the organizations by first understanding the family’s need, thoughtfully submitting referrals, and ensuring the partnership is successful through continued support and guidance.
